Sargento currently has an exciting opportunity for a Portal Developer. The person in this position wiil be responsible for the design, development, testing and implementation of Portal solutions in an enterprise environment utilizing a strong background in J2EE-based software architecture, design, development, and systems integration targeting the BEA Aqualogic Portal platform (now known as Oracle WebCenter Interaction).

Must have experience in developing technology strategies, architecting/designing solutions, coding and implementing solutions based on given designs.

Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Consults with supervisor about unusual problems or developments.

May have responsibility for routine task direction or basic training of less skilled developers.

Coordinates and executes Portal development by performing the following duties:

Responsible for the installation and upgrade of all Portal software components as well as performing the verification process for each Portal environment affected.

Creates and executes procedures to monitor and administer the Portal environment and resolve performance issues.

Develops and administers security strategies and procedures for ensuring the proper level of authorization is provided for all Portal solutions. Provides ongoing support for Portal users.

Develops, enhances, and provides ongoing maintenance and testing for existing Portal applications and components. Responsibilities include participating in the gathering and definition of business requirements and creation of functional and technical specifications as well as the actual creation and maintenance of the solution based on best practices while maintaining compliance with Sargento security policies.

Develops specifications for, performs the actual design of, and physically builds new Portal applications and components. Gathers specifications and works closely with end-users, Technical Support staff, third parties, and others to ensure that the design meets the long-term needs of the users/application it is being developed for.

Responsible for developing Portal applications and components using, for example, J2EE portlets, J2EE applications, standards based portlets (i.e., JSR168, etc.), BEA Aqualogic specific portlets, and other Java based applications capable of accessing various enterprise systems such as SAP.

Collaborates with Sargento Documentum system support staff on integration of Portal with EMC Documentum Web Publisher and Content Management system.

Instrumental in the installation and development of the Business Process Management Suite for the Portal.

Develops, implements, and administers Portal backup and recovery plans and procedures to ensure that all Portal components are sufficiently backed up to allow recovery with a minimum loss to the operation. This includes the testing of Portal backup and recovery plans and procedures on a regular basis to ensure operational readiness. Active participant on the Sargento Information Technology Disaster Recovery planning and testing team.

Responsible for responding to all off-hour calls regarding Portal issues in a prompt and reasonable timeframe. Responsible for being accessible to receive off-hour calls by carrying a functioning pager or cell phone at all times except when on vacation to facilitate prompt problem resolution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from four-year college or university and 3 - 5 years relevant experience required.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong computer skills are necessary for this position, including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, Visio, Internet, E-mail, database applications, general IT, programming and programming logic, project management, and strong technical skills. Experience with testing, version control, and managing multiple environments in an enterprise setting. Proven track record working on a team. Knowledge of most office equipment.

SPECIFIC TECHNNICAL SKILLS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
3 – 5 years over-all Information Technology and software development experience
3+ years of Java/J2EE/JSP programming experience required
3+ years of web-based application development (i.e. HTML, Javascript, XML, XSL, CSS) required
2+ years of experience with Web and Application Servers required, Apache/Tomcat preferred
2+ years of experience with a Java IDE required, Eclipse preferred
2+ years of UNIX experience required, SUN/Solaris preferred
Portal design and development experience, particularly BEA Aqualogic, preferred
Experience with relational databases and SQL including accessing via JDBC, Oracle database preferred
Experience with enterprise connectivity, particularly SAP, preferred
Experience with EMC Documentum Web Publisher preferred
Experience with EMC Documentum Content Management system preferred
Experience with Business Process Management, particularly Aqualogic, preferred
Basic understanding of security technologies (Digital Certificates, LDAP, SSO, etc.) preferred
